NWS: slick roads a concern Thursday morning

While the snow has stopped, icy conditions are expected Thursday morning and may pose a danger to motorists through midday, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday is expected to be sunny with a high near 41 degrees. The low for Thursday night is around 24 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service estimates 1-2 inches of snow fell on the Williamsburg area Wednesday.

Thursday Closings

Williamsburg

William and Mary will open 11 a.m. Thursday.

Williamsburg city offices are closed Thursday.

Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools are closed Thursday. 12-month employees report three hours late.

Williamburg-James City County Public Schools Courthosue will operate on a two-hour delay Thursday.

Walsingham Academy is closed Thursday.

Williamsburg Regional Library facilities will open at noon Thursday.

Colonial Williamsburg will open at 11 a.m. Thursday.

James City

James City facilities and courts will open at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown will open at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Employees report at 10 a.m.

The skate park at 5301 Longhill Road is closed Thursday. Little Creek Reservoir Park boat ramp and Chickahominy Riverfront Park fishing pier are closed Thursday.

York

York County Public Schools are closed Thursday. 12-month staff report at noon or use liberal leave.

York County government offices and courthouse will open 10 a.m. Thursday.

Wednesday

The snow is coming down steady in the Williamsburg area. Around 1-2 inches of snow is expected to fall Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow is likely to continue into the afternoon, with the forecast calling for 1 to 2 inches of snow to accumulate. Snowfall may continue until midnight. The early evening will be cloudy but skies are expected to gradually clear.

Thursday is expected to be sunny with a high near 41 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

State troopers have responded to 268 traffic crashes and 126 disabled vehicles across Virginia Wednesday, though the majority of crashes involved only damage to vehicles, according to a Virginia State Police news release.

As of 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, police were responding to four accidents in the Chesapeake Division, which includes Williamsburg. Police advise motorists drive slowly due to snowy conditions.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday for Williamsburg, James City and York. Conditions may be slippery during the evening commute.

Closings

William and Mary will be closed from 4 p.m. Wednesday to 11 a.m. Thursday.

Williamsburg city offices will close 3 p.m. Wednesday. Recycling is on schedule. Williamsburg city offices are closed Thursday.

Williamsburg Regional Library facilities will close 5 p.m. Wednesday. The library is open at noon Thursday.

Williamsburg Area Transit Authority will close at 8 p.m. Wednesday. The last pick-up time from Williamsburg Transportation Center is 7:30 p.m.

James City

James City facilities and courts will open at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Quarterpath Recreation Center will close at 3 p.m. and all evening programs, classes, leagues & activities are canceled Wednesday.

Waller Mill Park closed at 1p.m. Wednesday.

James City County Recreation Center and parks will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Abram Frink Jr. Community Center, which was scheduled to open at 4 p.m. Wednesday, will not open.

Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown will close at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

York

York County parks and recreation activities are canceled Wednesday. Trash collection is on schedule.

York County courthouse will open 10 a.m. Thursday.

York County Public Schools are closed Thursday. 12-month staff report at noon or use liberal leave.
