James City woman killed in two car accident

A 63-year-old James City County woman is dead after an accident on Windsor Meade Way Tuesday afternoon, police say.

Nena Lopez Abernathy died after her 1991 Honda Prelude was hit on the driver's side door by an 80-year-old James City County man driving a 2000 Toyota pickup truck, according to a press release from the James City County Police Department.

Abernathy was stopped at a stop sign near the Martin's Gas Station before crossing Windsor Meade Way to go to the Windsor Meade Shopping Center. Her car was hit by the pick up truck headed toward the 4800 block of Monticello Avenue at about 2 p.m., according to the release.

Abernathy was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News where she was pronounced dead. The other driver wasn't hurt, according to the release.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts. The crash is still under investigation, but police don't anticipate pressing charges against the other driver, according to the release.
