Board of Supervisors to weigh-in on Airbnb rentals

JAMES CITY

The Board of Supervisors will get its say on whether to grant a special use permit for Airbnb rentals to a couple that lives in the Lakewood subdivision.

Bruce and Kathy Williamson are applying for the permit for their home, where they've operated short-term rentals since last year.

The public hearing will be the latest turn in the discussion about the controversial "room-sharing" service, which has drawn a range of support and opposition.

The General Assembly is considering legislation that would expand the ability of homeowners to offer the short-term rentals.

The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the James City County Government Center, located at 101 Mounts Bay Road, Suite F.
