James City Board of Supervisors to meet Tuesday

The James City County Board of Supervisors will hold its first meeting of July Tuesday night.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. in the James City County Government Center at 101 Mounts Bay Road, Suite F.

Two public hearings are on the agenda.

A James City couple is seeking a special use permit to rent up to three rooms of their home using Airbnb, said James City County Administrator Bryan Hill.

The couple will still be living at the home while they rent out the rooms, according to the meeting agenda.

The Board of Supervisors unanimously denied another couple, Bruce and Kathy Williamson, a special use permit to use their home for Airbnb rentals on June 14.

"We had over 17 public speakers that evening who were against that request," Hill said.

Rich Smith is also seeking a special use permit to build a Dollar General store in the 8700 block of Pocahontas Trail. the 9,1000-square-foot store would have 30 parking spaces, according to the meeting agenda.

The James City County Planning Commission recommended the approval of the application unanimously at their June 1 meeting, the agenda states.
