No one was hurt when lumber processing equipment caught fire at Lumber Liquidators in Toano late Wednesday night, said Bill Apperson, a spokesman for the James City Bruton Volunteer Fire Department.
The equipment caught fire around midnight while people were working at the plant. Workers were evacuated from the plant, and when the fire department arrived, smoke filled the area, Apperson said.
"The smoke was so thick you couldn't see anything," Apperson said.
Workers told fire fighters the location of the fire, and it was extinguished within five minutes, Apperson said.
The fire did not spread to the sawdust machinery, although the lumber processing equipment was significantly damaged, Apperson said.
There was no damage to the building, Apperson said.
