Feeling the squeeze of living on LI
The dream of suburbia -- a robust economy, a comfortable paycheck, affordable living -- may be slipping away for many Long Islanders, although they continue to feel pride in their region, according to a poll released today by the Long Island Index.
Main is a two-way street
On Main Street in the heart of Sayville's downtown shopping district, the sidewalks are built wide, the store awnings are kept clean, and the bustle of a well-run commercial area is palpable.
The race for open space
Despite its excellent track record, if Long Island doesn't ramp up efforts to preserve open space in the next few years, it will not reach a state goal meant to protect drinking water and its natural surroundings, according to the LI Index report.
