Notes: Spagnuolo won't focus on Falcons

Tom Coughlin reiterated the Giants' stance on not allowing Steve Spagnuolo to interview with the Falcons and said that it was Spagnuolo who wanted no part of such a distraction this week.

"In our opinion and in Steve's as well, this is not the time," Coughlin said. "Steve's focus and concentration, as it should be, is right on this game, just like we all are. He and I spoke about this and he is the guy that brought it up first. 'I don't want to be distracted at this point in time with anything.' "

The Falcons requested permission Tuesday to speak with Spagnuolo this week. The Giants' denial not only was because of the distractions, but also because league rules stipulate that if permission is granted to one team, it must be granted to all teams.

Two Cowboys assistants, Tony Sparano and Jason Garrett, have had five coaching interviews between them during Dallas' bye week. Garrett, the offensive coordinator, is believed to be a top choice of the Falcons, who reportedly also are interested in USC coach Pete Carroll. Sparano, Dallas' assistant head coach and offensive line coach, is among the Dolphins' top candidates.

Injury report

C Shaun O'Hara (knee) did some work during the early portion of practice but took no snaps during the team portion. O'Hara was injured in the Patriots game on Dec. 29 and did not play on Sunday in Tampa. Four other Giants did not practice: WR Plaxico Burress (ankle), CB Kevin Dockery (hip flexor), CB Sam Madison (abdominal strain) and RT Kareem McKenzie, who sprained his ankle early in the win over the Bucs but played through it.
