We love movies

As fervent movie lovers, we are delighted that our Kimball Theatre is offering many more movies and times to enjoy! The series are great fun as well as interesting choices! Thank you for whoever has determined to increase the shows and showings!

Guns

To the writer [who said] that guns kill over 33,000 a year: First, the number is slightly less. Second, roughly 17,000 of those are suicides . Third, roughly 11,000 are actual homicides. Fourth, over 34,000 people are killed in auto accidents each year, yet Democrats continually force our cars to be lighter and more fuel efficient, thus less safe. Finally, over a million people are permanently injured in auto accidents each year. So which is safer?

Looking for ...

I found keys in York Terrace neighborhood on Sunday May 15th. If you have lost keys, please call or text me at 757-293-8029 and describe them.

Does anyone know where Mark from European Beauty Concepts went? Is he at another salon?

Yes. There's a senior who was trying to find somebody to go to R&B. You left your email, but I haven't set up my computer or anything and gotten an email address. So if you would please try calling me back. The best time to get me is after 7 o'clock . I am interested and I wish you'd please call me back. You have my number.

Does anyone know of a good TV repairman in the area? Because our TV is rather large, we need someone who can come to the house. Thanks.

Does anybody know of anyone wanting to donate yarn? I am working on making scarves and such for charities around Williamsburg and the Hampton Roads area. I can be reached at 757-561-7508 Mary. Thank you.

Good morning. I am looking for Mark Wilkerson. I went to European Concepts and he was gone. If anybody knows where's he's at now, would they put it in the Last Word so I can find him. Thank you and have a great day.

One of the guys

Guys, dolls, sweetheart, darling, ma'am... Call me anything you want, just don't call me late to dinner.

Ball of confusion

Yes, I just turned left onto News Road, going—meant to turn right onto Ironbound Road, and my God, what Ouija board expert designed this mess? You've got to be kidding me.

Presidential politics

This weekend we heard both President Obama and Hillary say, "We don't need walls." Now, what's funny about that is they're building, at the President's request, a higher wall around the White House. And you can't even approach Hillary Clinton without a background check because of her dealings with the Secretary of State and her husband being a prior president. She's got 24-hour Secret Service on her and has for years. So they go back into their secured, walled areas while they're telling America, "You don't need walls." Pretty funny.

Why is it we never hear any outrage from the right on the lies that George W. Bush committed to the world about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq that led to the death of over 5,000 Americans? Oh, that's right. The right considers George W. Bush to be a saint and incapable of sinning.

To the person who told Republicans to stay home on the first Tuesday in November if Trump was the candidate: They must be a Democrat. Obviously, they want Hillary for president. Thank you.

I am tired of seeing unchallenged unfavorable Last Word items about Hillary Clinton. First, her truthfulness: the highly respected PolitiFact states that Hillary has been 95% truthful, compared to 46% for Sanders, 23% for Cruz, and 12% for Trump. Benghazi: the tragedy occurred in a consulate, by definition an open, unprotected building (compared to embassies, which are generally closed, protected buildings). Emails: at the time she took office, the State Department email system had a reputation of being unreliable, and there was then no law requiring employees to use it.

Big thank you

Congratulations to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation for opening the Liberty Lounge to veterans, retirees and their dependents. A great place to relax while touring Colonial Williamsburg. I want to thank them on behalf of all of us veterans.

Coming home from work recently, smoke came billowing out underneath my hood and filled my car with black smoke. I want to thank the two gentlemen (who are angels to me) from Toano who stopped, got me out of the car. I want to thank Officer Paul for staying with me from the beginning to the end when all the emergency equipment came. A big thank you to those two angels, wonderful gentlemen from Toano, and Officer Paul. Thank you.

Kudos to the Republic garbage man who goes up the driveway to get an elderly lady's trash can near my son's school.

Free to you

I have an entertainment center, 48 inches high, 28 inches wide, 16 inches deep and a 26-inch older model TV, cable ready, to give away. Anyone who is interested, call 566-3186.

Class trip

My 8th grade class recently went on a class trip to Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown. The best part was in the Jamestown Settlement, at the blacksmith's shop. There we met Vincent the Blacksmith, who was amazing, kind and knowledgeable. There was Latin written on the walls which was incredible to someone who knows how few people learn the language. After about half an hour of talking with him, we got a little souvenir and continued on our way to see the rest of the historic sites. It was a great trip, and we couldn't have asked for better.

Makes no sense

Will somebody please explain to me how a beer brewing company was allowed to open up right across the street from the Williamsburg Place/Farley Center, a rehab center? That makes no sense that no one advocated to have it open somewhere else.

Our family loves ZPizza, located in New Town on Courthouse Street. They have the freshest ingredients—a number of them are organic. They make a lot of their own sauces, such as the tomato sauce and garlic sauce. The pizzas are just great, and the salads that go with them are, too. That's our favorite pizza.

Due to the LPGA event, the James City County Rotary held its weekly meeting at the Waypoint Seafood and Grill. Harold Saunders and his team made us welcome, comfortable, and we went away well fed. The legend lives on—great hospitality—even zero dark thirty!

Kindness of strangers

On a recent Saturday while in line to pay for my lunch at a local fast food drive-thru in Williamsburg, I was surprised when handing my money to the employee to learn that the woman in the car in front of me had paid for my meal! I was so touched by the selfless gesture. What a wonderful community Williamsburg is to live in. The car pulled away quickly; therefore. I was unable to thank her. However, I will pay it forward myself soon and hope my recipient will feel the same kindness of strangers I felt that day. Thank you!

Mitigation plan

Bravo, Mr. Ronnie Chappell. The Corps of Civil Engineers shilling for the Park Service in trying to steal $85 million from Dominion Power shareholders borders on criminal activity. Extortion is unlawful activity. Shame on the Corps. Shame on Colonel Jason Kelly, the District Engineer. Tom Farrell II, CEO of Dominion Power, should tell Col. Kelly to shove it.

Remembering Gabe

The other day I went down aisle 6 in Farm Fresh for the first time after the horrible killing. I was wondering if Farm Fresh ever thought about putting a plaque in honor of Gabriel Ryan Maness at either end of the aisle. I think it would very appropriate.

On Airbnb

"We the Residents of Lakewood." Let's get a few facts straight: I live here, please don't include me in this. I would love to have Airbnb join Lakewood. Just a reminder on the "traffic:" First in, first out. Our beautiful neighborhood with the business signs -- on cars, boats, trailers and the other cars parked in the street won't be bothered by the Airbnb traffic.

Birdsong

Will someone please tell me the name of the bird, the star of the evening chorus, who sings "KittyKittyKitty" over and over.

Master Naturalists

Anyone interested in learning more about Virginia's wildlife and natural resources should check out the local chapter of Virginia Master Naturalist (historicrivers.org). Naturalists are involved in citizen science projects such as monitoring water quality in rivers and streams and conducting wildlife inventories in our parks. They also are involved in educational outreach and stewardship activities such as habitat restoration and trail maintenance. In June, applications for the next training and certification class will be available on their website.

IRS scam

In reference to the article on the IRS scan: The Department of Homeland Security—Homeland Security investigations—is currently conducting an investigation on this. To report violations or [for] more information, you can call 1-866-DHS2ice. That's 1-866-DHS the number 2 ice.
