Last Word on an unusual tree, Oct. 3

Teacher pay concerns boil down to supply and demand.

What kind of tree?

Next to the Trader Joe’s grocery store in Settlers Market, in the cement area right next to the building is a tree covered—the branches are simply covered—with little orange balls, little bumps.  I have never seen anything like this. Could someone tell me what kind of a tree it is?  It’s just beyond the shopping carts, which are stacked next to the building, and this is just beyond that. You would see it as you would park your car. Thank you for any information.

Teacher pay

As long as employers can hire and retain employees at current pay levels, they have no reason to increase the pay scales.   The inability of employers to terminate marginal teachers limits compensation increases to good teachers as the employers have no unfilled positions. It's basic supply and demand.  If you want good pay, get the training and skills necessary to work in an area where good employees are in high demand.  Unfortunately, our colleges and universities do little to help students understand their employment possibilities upon graduation.

Breathing easier

It seems that as time goes by, I suffer from more and more allergy related issues. I spoke with my doctor about this and she informed me that the allergic reactions may be due to the air in my own home.  I was not aware that Air Duct Cleaning existed, but after asking around I called Duct Hunters. I can't believe how much better I can breathe after getting my AC ducts cleaned by Duct Hunters –it was almost immediate! I have recommended them to all my friends and my neighbors. They were prompt and efficient, plus their fee was quite reasonable. I give them not four, but five stars! I will definitely be using them whenever I need my AC ducts and returns cleaned.

Thanks for the kind offer

Extra thanks to the young woman in the long gray skirt who came back from her car last Wednesday at Farm Fresh in Norge to inquire if I needed help! I was obviously tired and hurting a bit too from doing big shopping; however, I did manage just fine. But I thought afterwards that I had not commented adequately on how very nice it was that you bothered to offer help! As we are sometimes taught: What are we here for on earth but to help each other? So thank you again both for the offer and the reminder of how important it is for us all to be kind!

Presidential politics

Concerning voting this November:  There are two ways to do it. One is just go in there and blindly vote your party. The other way is to study the platforms of each party, and what each platform indicates… what it is on the sanctity of life, religious freedom, federal judges, national defense, terrorism, human rights, immigration, Internet safety and decency and addressing poverty, law and order, Israel and Jerusalem. There are very distinct differences between the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. This is the best way—you go by what the platforms indicate and vote your conscience. Thank you.

Clinton brings in this guy from "Shark Tank" who owns a basketball team. Wow, that’s really going to influence me. But Trump brings in a survivor from Benghazi and a Gold Star mother whose son was killed there, for the front row. That’s exactly what I would have done.

If you listen to the media, you would think that Hillary Clinton won the debate, but if you look at the millions and millions of those who took their time to go online for their impression of the debate, Donald Trump took it hands down. But the media’s going to keep trying to brainwash you that they want Hillary; therefore, whatever she does, in their estimation is what the American people want. But it’s not.

Just listened to Governor Christie’s account of the train tragedy in New Jersey on Thursday. I can assure you, in my heart of hearts, that all those Republican voters in the primary that did not vote for Christie—you really made a mistake, in my mind, even with the debate. Governor Christie could and should have been the Republican nominee for President of the United States. And, for those of you hoping that Hillary wouldn’t become the President—I think you really blew it.

We're disappointed that former four-term Republican Senator John Warner is endorsing Hillary. For years we believed he was a RINO (Republican In Name Only) and always was able to convince conservatives during re-election. He doesn't have to support Trump, but Warner should vote for Trump as the Republican candidate over Mrs. Clinton, the Democratic candidate.
