Time to gear up in the fight against cancer

The battle against cancer has achieved many victories in recent years; yet, we are still searching for a permanent cure. As the fight continues, our community has come to anticipate the annual John Randolph-Mark Ellis Memorial Dinner on behalf of The Riverside Cancer Care Program.

Now in its 24th year, our dinner brings four of Williamsburg’s most celebrated chefs to the Two Rivers Country Club in a gastronomic display of their culinary talents. We are most excited to announce that the 2018 version of this very popular affair will return to Two Rivers on Feb. 25. Reservations are now being taken, and we expect our limited and intimate setting to sell out very quickly.

The proceeds of our event will support the ongoing effort of Riverside Cancer Care as it works to solve the challenges of a most insidious disease. Guests at the event will include local health-care professionals, as well as cancer survivors and concerned community members as we continue the work of research and support that has saved many lives in battling what is known as "The Emperor of All Maladies."

The dinner celebrates and remembers two courageous men who inspired all of us to carry on the fight against cancer with our financial support. John Randolph served as athletic director at his alma mater, The College of William and Mary, and his notable career was cut short by cancer in 1995. Dr. Mark Ellis, himself a cancer patient, brought cure and comfort to hundreds of good people, many of whom will attend the dinner in tribute to his healing powers. Ellis' courageous life was ended by cancer in 2010.

Our elegant four-course menu will be prepared by Anthony Rizzo, executive chef at Two Rivers Country Club; Brett Hayes, executive chef at Opus 9; Justin Dallinger, executive chef at Kingsmill Resort; and Travis Brust, executive chef and food and beverage director at Colonial Williamsburg. Hors d’ouvres will be provided by the Power family of The Cheese Shop at Merchants Square.

The Memorial Dinner ACS event gratefully acknowledges and appreciates the continuing support of our two presenting sponsors: Riverside Cancer Care and Erica and John Randolph Jr. All levels of additional sponsorships are still available. Tickets are priced at $100 per person. Purchase individually or book a table for eight at a special price of $750.
