Sen. Kaine, please support Medicare for All bill

Sen. Kaine, you are an honorable and trustworthy friend. In your decisions as my senator, you have expressed your commitment to the well being of the people of our nation and our commonwealth. You have stood tall by being guided by moral imperatives.

Stand up now and co-sponsor Sen. Bernie Sanders' Medicare for All bill. Be true to your convictions and to the folk who look to you for compassionate leadership.

In the wake of Republican attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act and kick tens of millions of people off of their health care, it’s time to take a different approach.

Medicare is the most popular and efficient health care program in the U.S., and expanding it to everyone is supported by a majority of Americans ― including 41 percent of Republicans.

I urge you to become an original co-sponsor of Sen. Sanders’ bill. Join the other senators who recognize healthcare as a basic human right.

Real health care reform isn’t about tax cuts for the rich and corporations. It’s about guaranteeing access to health care while also making it affordable for working families.

As my good friend, Gov. Jim Hunt of North Carolina always said, "Do the right thing." I bet Gov. Linwood Holton is advising you to co-sponsor Medicare For All. I was supervisor of school desegregation services in the Virginia Department of Education during Governor Holton's tenure. He stood tall always. I know you will, also.
