Statement from UCF Coach George O'Leary on the Sentinel's article

Statement from University of Central Florida Football Coach George O'Leary on today's Orlando Sentinel article about the death of player Ereck Plancher:

"Many aspects of today's article are incorrect, and to suggest that fault for this tragic event lies with the coaching staff is irresponsible.

I want to make one thing perfectly clear: I have encouraged players, coaches and support staff who believe they have helpful information to come forward. The notion that I somehow am discouraging that is absolutely false.

Ereck received immediate medical attention as soon as it was clear he was in distress. Our trainers, police responders and emergency personnel did everything they could to save him and acted quickly and appropriately. I thank them for their efforts.

Our team will move forward with Ereck forever in our hearts. As for our coaching staff, we will continue to be vigilant in keeping our players' health and safety at the forefront of what we do."
