Florida State University is close to announcing an agreement that would name offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher the successor to head football coach Bobby Bowden, a source close to the situation confirmed to the Sentinel this morning.

It is past time for Bobby to retire. He has been a great coach but every dog has his day and his day has come and gone. It is time for another coach to come in and take over the great program that Bobby has built. I think Jimbo has what it takes to deal with the players, administration, media and the boosters. I hope this is all true so that Bobby can retire with dignity.

Seriously though - didn'**** a story just run last week which announced that Bowden had signed a new one year deal?

Does this mean that deal is off? Or, that anyone thinks it will take another year for Jimbo to study Bowden so he will know what to do when he becomes the Coach afterward??

Very confusing -

About time. I love what Bobby did for the program, but his time is past.

Oliver,

This is done for the recruits to show them the direction of the program now that it is obvious Bowden is on his last leg. Kid's need to see at least the next four years. Bowden probably has another 2-3 years left in him.

Old news. This was discussed as fact when Fisher left LSU. I think Fisher will do well. I would think a year on a 75-25% (Bowden 75%) gradually progressing to a 10-90 share during the next year should be a good transition. Then Fisher takes all the next year after Bobby becomes Coach Emeritus.

Bobby is beloved by the Seminole Nation. We all love what he has done for us. His detractors and fans of rival schools may never understand this.

Many of us, however, are ready to move on. We'd love for Bobby to go out on top but that probably won'**** happen. It won'**** change our feelings for him!

Interesting. Got to keep Jimbo happy. I hope the 1 year deal for BB is really 1 year and isn' **** some self-appointiing type of contract that will tick off Jimbo and make him think of moving on.

I really hope this works out for FSU, because if Jimbo doesnt bring FSU back to where FSU fans think FSU should be and they are firing him 5 years down the road from his start date, then fans and media will be saying FSU should have hired the best person and not the safe person.
