I wrote a little about this before. But now I want your opinion.

So come sit down by the bar, grab a Boh and give me your two cents (no, that’s not the suggested tip).

The Ravens play in the AFC title game Sunday. One upset win over the New England Patriots and Ray Lewis and company are back in the Super Bowl for the first time since 2000-01.

Meanwhile, the Orioles host FanFest on Saturday and record crowds would not be a surprise. The club, after all, made the playoffs for the first time in 15 years.

This is the first time since 1971 that the city’s MLB team and NFL team made the playoffs in the same year (yes, we are counting this NFL season as 2012). How long ago was that? The Baltimore Colts were a powerhouse and I was a toddler. Yes, a long, long time ago.

Throw in Towson’s own Michael Phelps making Olympic history again in 2012, and you can call this a banner sports year in Balmer.

So here’s what I want to know: As a Baltimore sports fan, is this the best year you’ve had? Certainly, the answer depends on how old you are.

I would think 1996 could make a run for your affections. The NFL finally came back and the Orioles made the playoffs for the first time in 13 years that season.

I can't talk about the late 1950s, when the Colts were king and the Orioles were really starting to get a following after coming here in 1954. Or the late 1960s/early 1970s, when both teams were so good, and so were the Baltimore Bullets. That run may never be duplicated.

And I know some of you who, like me, grew up in the early 1980s can vouch for how big of a deal the Baltimore Blast were back then and how this city embraced indoor soccer. Those guys were rock stars in this town when they were winning the MISL.

So this is a generational question. And an open-ended one. You can look in the history books or you can go with a personal thought. But you can’t wait until Sunday night -- when you find out the outcome of the Ravens’ game -- to answer.
