The Friends of the H.L. Mencken House found inspiration for "Cocktails and Curmudgeons" - an evening fundraiser to help efforts to save the house of the late journalist - in the words of the man himself: "A man who has taken aboard two or three cocktails ... is immensely more competent to entertain a dinner party." Two cocktails were included in the ticket price for the party held in the garden of the house where the Sage of Baltimore once resided.
