Alex Heacock, a 2009 William and Mary graduate, has been named interim Director of Track and Field and Cross Country following Stephen Walsh's resignation.
Heacock has been W&M's assistant coach for throws the last two years.
Earlier this year, he was named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Men's Indoor Assistant of the Year for the Southeast Region.
A second-round pick of the Celtics in 2015, Thornton played last season in Australia with the Sydney Kings and in the NBA Development League with the Maine Red Claws.
The Celtics are competing in the Utah Jazz Summer League, which began Monday and ends Thursday, and also will play in the Summer League in Las Vegas from July 9-18.
William and Mary earned the program's eighth College Gymnastics Association National Academic team title after posting a combined grade-point average of 3.512.
In addition to claiming the last three academic team titles, the Tribe's overall total is more than any other program's since the inception of the award in 1991.
