On a day of many local rainouts in various sports, the Colonial Rivers Conference 25 boys soccer quarterfinals were played. All four teams to advance are Bay Rivers District members.
Reeves Trott scored twice as second-seeded Lafayette (10-3-2) dominated Southampton 7-0 in hard rain at Wanner Stadium. Bryce Losty, Truman Brody-Boyd and Matthew Beatty also provided goals.
The Rams will be back at Wanner Stadium for a semifinal Tuesday against No. 6 Poquoson, which beat No. 3 Park View on penalty kicks after they played to a 1-1 standoff in South Hill. Jonathan Deeds scored in regulation for the Islanders.
In the other half of the bracket, No. 4 Warhill blanked No. 5 Colonial Heights 2-0 on Jared Ford’s goals in the 69th and 77th minute.
That gave the Lions the right to travel to Bailey Field on Tuesday to face top-seeded York, which ousted No. 8 New Kent 6-0 as Cameron Dail netted a hat trick.
Conference 19 quarterfinal:
In a Conference 19, No. 5 seed Tabb won a 2-1 thriller at No. 4 Powhatan to earn a chance at top-seeded Jamestown.
Allen Blair’s goal broke a tie with two minutes left in regulation for the Tigers on an assist by Derek Cook, who scored the game's opening goal in the first half. Andrew Lenfant assisted on Cook's goal.
The Indians pulled even in the second half before Blair ended their season.
Both semifinals, which have Group 4A South region tournament berths at stake, are Wednesday night. Tabb will face the Eagles at 7:30 at Wanner Stadium, and No. 3 Grafton will play at No. 2 Smithfield at 7.
