Orie's three TDs lift New Kent past Bruton, which misses tying 2-point conversion

Daily Press

Trent Orie ran for 174 yards and three touchdowns Friday night as host New Kent defeated Bruton 28-26, denting the Panthers’ playoff hopes.

Orie scored on runs of 3, 37 and 13 yards for New Kent (2-7, 2-6 Bay Rivers).

Bruton’s Daniel Jones scored on runs of 17 and 12 yards, as well as a 60-yard fumble return for a touchdown. His last score came with 6:00 left in the game, but the Panthers failed to come up with the tying 2-point conversion.

New Kent began the weekend 25th in Group 3A East, nine spots below the playoff cut. Bruton started the weekend 16th in 2A East, making the Panthers’ spot highly precarious.
