Deloris Catlett and Sabrina Fairbanks won the top bracket in the 22nd annual Charity Tennis Classic, a women’s doubles tournament that has become one of the Peninsula’s top draws.
Catlett and Fairbanks defeated Charo Hunter and Betsey Riester 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) in the final of the 16-tandem 8.5 bracket. It was the fourth victory in a two-day span for Catlett and Fairbanks.
Kathy Kretz and Elaine Endicott won the consolation bracket at 8.5.
In the lower 7.0 draw, Kim Osborne and Brooke Rowland won four matches for the championship, finishing with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (5-7), 6-1 triumph against Kelley Cody and Adrienne Rylander.
Bonnie Gobble and Anne Howard captured the consolation title.
Both brackets were filled 1 1/2 months before play began. The tournament and accompanying auction generated more than $32,500 for the Avalon women’s shelter in Williamsburg and CASA (Court Assisted Special Advocates), organizations that help victims of domestic abuse.
