Saturday’s Little League roundup: Poquoson walks off with age 8-10 District 7 baseball tournament crown

Poquoson won the Little League District 7 age 8-10 championship Saturday with a scintillating 8-7, eight-inning triumph over Hampton-Wythe at Deer Park.

Poquoson, which finished unbeaten in the double-elimination tournament and earned a state tournament berth, led 4-1 after five innings, but Hampton-Wythe extended the game with a three-run top of the sixth.

Hampton-Wythe then scored three more runs in the top of the seventh, threatening to force a winner-take-all final, but Poquoson scored three in the bottom of the seventh to keep the game going before taking the title in walk-off fashion an inning later.

Mason Deas had three hits and Tyler Martin two RBI for Poquoson. For Hampton-Wythe, Eli Chaltraw and CJ Williams combined for six hits and five RBI. …

In the District 7 age 9-11 first round at Warwick Little League, Poquoson shut out Deer Park 20-0 as Max Fritts batted 3 for 4 and struck out seven.

Also, York County beat Warwick 11-1 as winning pitcher Ryan Kizer drove in two runs and allowed just one hit. …

In the Senior first round at McReynolds Sports Complex in York County, Warwick beat Hampton-Wythe 4-1.

Softball:

In the Major (age 10-12) first round at Phoebus Little League, Poquoson beat Phoebus 10-4 as Cayla Weaver had three hits. Hannah Huxford had three hits for Phoebus. …

Also, Brooklyn Arneault’s four hits propelled York County past Deer Park 21-11.
