Men’s basketball:

William and Mary received a commitment from 6-foot-6, 200-pound guard Justin Pierce of Glenbard West High in Glen Ellyn, Ill., according to Alex Kline of @therecruitscoop.

Pierce averaged 18 points per game last season, shooting 48 percent from the field and 75 percent on free throws.

Men’s soccer:

VCU (2-4-1) twice came back from a one-goal deficit to tie Georgetown 2-2 at Sports Backers Stadium.

Georgetown (2-2-2), a national semifinalist last season, took the lead on Alex Muyl’s goal in the 38th minute and led 1-0 at halftime.

Andrade Santos pulled VCU even in the 52nd minute on a goal following a wild sequence, but the Hoyas’ Arun Basuljevic scored off a rebound in the 60th minute to give the visitors a 2-1 advantage.

With the Rams nearing defeat, junior Dakota Barnathan’s goal in the 88th minute forced the tie. He took a pass from Santos on a break upfield and converted.

The teams played 20 scoreless minutes of overtime after the regulation 90.

PRO BASEBALL:

International League:

The host Indianapolis Indians stayed alive in the Governor’s Cup finals, overcoming a four-run deficit to edge Columbus 6-5 and cut the Clippers’ series lead to 2-1.

The Clippers lost despite a cycle by Zach Walters, who doubled to complete the feat in the eighth inning, then left the game with an injury soon afterward. He scored three runs, tripled in the second inning, hit a solo homer to right field in the fourth inning and singled in the sixth.

Columbus starter Will Roberts, a former Virginia Cavaliers pitcher from Richmond, shut out the Indians for four innings but left after one batter in the fifth. Indianapolis scored three runs in that inning, then two more in the sixth to gain the lead.

The Clippers pulled even in the top of the eighth when Walters scored on Adam Moore’s single to left.

But Indianapolis scored the eventual winning run in the bottom of the eighth. Keon Broxton walked, went to second on Dan Gamache’s sacrifice bunt, took third on a throwing error by third baseman Yandy Diaz and scored on Gustavo Nunez’s groundout to second.

Blake Wood pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to end the contest.

Eastern League:

The Reading Fightin Phils beat the host Bowie Baysox 9-3 to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five EL finals.

Reading, Philadelphia’s Double-A affiiate, will try to clinch the series Friday in Maryland.

Nick Williams, Andrew Knapp and Harold Martinez each had two RBI for the Phils. Williams, JP Crawford and Martinez each had two hits.

Quincy Latimore’s RBI single, Tucker Nathans’ home run and a Crawford error provided the runs for the Baysox, the team immediately below the Norfolk Tides in the Baltimore Orioles’ organization.

NFL:

Cornerback B.W. Webb, a Warwick High and William and Mary graduate, has made the Tennessee Titans’ practice squad after being cut by the Pittsburgh Steelers late in the preseason.

Webb has played in the regular season for the Dallas Cowboys, who drafted him in 2013, and Steelers since his FCS All-America career with the Tribe.
