Tabb remains undefeated in field hockey with 4-1 win at Bruton

YORK β€” Something had to give.

In a Bay Rivers District clash of unbeaten field hockey teams at Bruton on Thursday night, Tabb High walked away intact, defeating Bruton 4-1.

The game was evenly played in the opening minutes, but Tabb (12-0) scored with 18:32 left in the first half. Senior Melissa Progar hit a short shot from just in front of the net after receiving the ball from Kara Enoch. The Tigers made it 2-0 with 3:07 left in the first half when Taylor Omweg scored from the middle of a crowd of players.

The second half was just under way at 29:22 when Tabb's Mallory Henderson made it a 3-0 advantage. She scored with an assist from Marie-Claire Evans. With 6:10 left in the game, Henderson scored again, with an assist from Madison Vann.

β€œIt was intense throughout,” Tabb coach Wendy Wilson said.

Tabb took 11 shots and kept the pressure on Bruton's defense. Panthers goalie Haley Gardner made repeated saves.

The Panthers (11-1) never quit, breaking through with a goal with 1:22 left. DaSha Hill scored with an assist from Carley Shannon.

The visiting Tigers are familiar with winning. Tabb won four consecutive state titles from 2008-11 before a near-miss in 2012. It has not lost a district game in six years.
