The 37th Virginia Duals, featuring some of the best college and high school wrestling in the country, will be contested Friday and Saturday in the Hampton Coliseum.
One local team, Lafayette, will compete in one of the three 16-team tournaments on the high school side. The Rams will take on Kellam of Virginia Beach at 7 p.m. Friday in the American High School Division and face either Grassfield of Chesapeake or Hanover in the second match, either Friday night or Saturday morning.
"We're really young," Lafayette coach Chris Wiatt said before the season, "but it's always good experience to wrestle at the Virginia Duals."
Eastern View topped Bellefonte Area, Pa., in the American final last year, but the Pennsylvania side will enter as the top seed this year.
In the National High School Division, reigning champion Nazareth of Pennsylvania leads the way, having placed in this division 14 times since 1996 and claimed four titles.
Grundy is the top seed in the Black and Blue High School Division, which features only Virginia teams.
Virginia Tech is the top seed in the 12-team National College Division after finishing as runner-up last season. The Hokies, ranked fifth in the nation, became the first team from their state to win this division in 2013 with a win over the Virginia Cavaliers.
Oklahoma is back in the Duals for the first time since 2010 and seeded second, while Arizona State is third.
Defending champion Kutztown University of Pennsylvania leads the eight-team American College Division.
Action starts Friday morning for high school and college competition, and the championships will be held Saturday night. Adult single-session passes are $24 Friday and $29 Saturday, and a two-day pass is $44.
