Lafayette grad Lipcius continues Tennessee tear

Former Lafayette High baseball star Andre Lipcius has reached base safely in each of his first 20 games for Tennessee.

The Vols' freshman infielder extended the streak Saturday at Mississippi State with a fourth-inning single.

Entering Saturday's contest, Lipcius was tied for fourth on the team in batting (.333) with seven doubles and 10 RBIs.

Andre Lipcius and brother, Luc, became the first known twins to start for Tennessee (13-6 entering Saturday) on Opening Day, two years removed from helping lead Lafayette to a Group 3A title.

Freshman southpaw Kent Klyman is making an impact in N.C. State's bullpen.

The Jamestown graduate is sporting a 1.12 ERA in eight innings, and allowed one hit and no runs in an inning of work in Saturday's 7-6 defeat to top-ranked Louisville. The Wolfpack (13-11) beat the Cardinals in the series opener.

N.C. State will visit Klyman's former Jamestown and Post 39 teammate Sean Hughes and Boston College April 21-23.

Hughes, a sophomore pitcher, made eight relief appearances last year before his season was cut short by injury. ...

Freshman outfielder/designated hitter Evan Lowery is third in hitting (.379) for Navy (14-9) with a home run and eight RBIs.

Evan's brother, Liam (.240, 1 HR, 5 RBIs), has played in 18 games for Navy and started four after seeing action in four games last year as a freshman. The former Jamestown standouts batted consecutively in the starting order Friday against Princeton with Evan at DH and Liam in left field. Liam hit a three-run home run. ...

William and Mary sophomore catcher Matt Keane, a Lafayette graduate, has started twice and played in nine games with three hits and an RBI.
