Jamestown’s boys tennis wins sixth straight

JAMES CITY — Wills FauntLeRoy extended Jamestown High’s boys tennis team’s win streak to six in a row this week with 9-0 victories over Warhill and Southampton.

FauntLeRoy outlasted Ryan Byrd 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 1-0 (10-7) at No.1 singles during Thursday’s win over the Lions.

Swanson defeated Chris Sell 6-2, 6-0 at No.2 singles and Chris Mesla beat Jacob Kim 6-0, 6-1 at No.3 singles.

Neilson beat Gordon Ivey 6-0, 6-1 at No.4 singles, while Logan Yowell cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Justin Briscoe. Reso beat Zack Radeka 6-0, 6-1 at No.6 singles.

In doubles, Jeremy Hunt and Andrew Koch defeatd Byrd and Kim 8-2 at No.1 doubles. Nathan Yowell and Masla beat Sell and Ivey 8-1 at No.2 doubles. Neilson and Logan Yowell beat Radeka and Briscoe 8-1.

On Wednesday, Jamestown cruised to a 9-0 win over Southampton.

Elliot Mee, Swanson, Masla, Neilson, Nathan Yowell and Reso won singles matches.

Mee and FauntLeRoy won 8-0 at No.1 doubles. Swanson and Reso won 8-0 at No.2 doubles and Nielson and Logan Yowell coasted to an 8-1 win at No.3 doubles.

On Tuesday, Warhill dropped an 8-1 decision to Tabb. Ryan Byrd won 6-0, 6-4 at No.1 singles to post the Lions’ first boys victory in school history.

Lafayette —The Rams kept their district title hopes alive on Wednes­day with a 9-0 win at New Kent.

Chris Ford, Max Hinders and Jesse Bryant won singles and doubles matches during the victory over the Trojans.

Ford won 6-0, 6-1 at No.1 singles and Hinders coasted to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No.2 singles.

Bryant blanked his opponnent at No.3 singles, while Adam Watson prevailed 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) at No.4 singles.

Dylan Fitchett outlasted his opponent 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) at No.5 singles, while Derrell Fountain won 6-1, 6-3 at No.6 singles.

Ford and Hinders won 8-1 No.1 doubles. Hinders and Fountain posted a n 8-5 win at No.2 doubles, while Bryant and Nicholas Shedd prevailed 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.

Walsingham —David Cairns, Matthew Pece, Edward Tracey, Davis Sargeant and Xander Ngo posted singles and doubles victories to lead the Trojans to an 8-1 victory over Walsingham Academy Bishop Sulivan Catholic.

Cairns won 6-1, 6-0 at No.2 singles and Peck posted a 7-5, 6-0 victory at No.3 singles. Tracey coasted to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No.4 singles while Sargeant prevailed 6-1, 6-3 at No.5 singles. Ngo capped the victory with a 6-4, 6-2 at No.6 singles.

The Trojans swept all three doubles matches as well. John Kincaid and Peck won 10-5 at No.1 doubles. Tracey and Cairns and Sargeant and Ngo cruised to 10-2 victories.

Bruton — Peter Kim, Donald Greathouse and Seong Jeon posted singles and doubles wins for Grafton High (7-1, 5-1) during Thursday’s 7-2 win over Bruton.

T.J. Kurec won 3-6. 6-1, 1-0 (10-3) at No.3 singles for the Panthers’ lone singles victory.

Seth Jones and Peter Jones were tied at 2-2 at No.1 doubles, before the Clippers’ top tandem was forced to retire due to injury.
