Jamestown up 12 shots in state championships

Led by Emily Salamy's 73, Jamestown is out in front in the Class 4A state golf championships field by 12 shots after the first day of competition in Forest.

Jamestown, the Virginia High School League 4A South Regional champion, shot 312 Monday at Ivy Hill Golf Club. Second-place Jefferson Forest shot 324, followed by Charlottesville's 326 and Glen Allen's 338.

Salamy and Buckley were followed for the Eagles by Dan Kelly (78), William Bell (84), Austin West (84), and Matthew Shield (85).

The championships resume Tuesday at 9 a.m.
