Prep roundup: Jamestown golf finishes in fourth place at state championships

Jamestown’s golf team finished in fourth place at the Group 4A state championships, held Tuesday and Wednesday in Abingdon.

Bobby Dudeck led the team with scores of 76 and 75 in the tournament. Jack DeVore finished in second with rounds of 80 and 77.

Jamestown finished in fourth with a team score of 641.

Blacksburg finished in first with a team score of 571. …

New Kent’s team placed third at the state Class 3 tournament in Abingdon, and the Trojans’ Robb Kinder tied for third individually at Glenrochie Country Club.

Kinder was at 73-77-150. Tabb’s Jackson Tyler (tied for ninth at 76-82-158), York’s James Steele (14th at 80-82-162) and New Kent’s Slater Gammon (tied for 20th at 84-86-170) were among the other top Bay Rivers District competitors.

Girls volleyball

Jamestown continued its unbeaten district streak with a sweep against Bruton on Thursday night.

Jamestown (16-2 overall, 14-0 Bay Rivers District) swept Bruton 25-17, 25-17, 25-17. The Panthers fell to 9-10 overall, 6-8 Bay Rivers District.

Emma Schriner led the team with 18 kills and added 10 digs. Emma Yaugo finished with seven kills and two blocks.

Maddie Pettengell had five kills, two blocks and 10 service points.

Sam Moberly finished with 11 assists, two aces, two digs and 10 service points and Audrey Luedde added 12 service points. …

On Tuesday, Jamestown swept New Kent 25-17, 25-22, 26-24. The Trojans fell to 12-5, 8-5 in the district. …

Alexsa Woolson had team-highs of nine aces and nine digs and Makayla Johnson had a team-high nine kills to lead Bruton to a 3-2 win over Lafayette on Tuesday. Emily Sullivan had eight kills and four aces for the Rams and Briar Ownby-Connolly posted five kills and two blocks.

On Thursday, Grafton, Warhill, Lafayette and Poquoson swept their opponents 3-0.

The Clippers (14-4) beat New Kent (6-6 overall), the Lions (12-7) beat Smithfield (1-13 overall), the Rams (5-9) swept York (1-13) and the Islanders (5-6) upended Tabb, dropping the Tigers to 8-7 overall.

Field hockey

Warhill, Smithfield, Tabb and Bruton came away with non-district victories.

The Lions (8-3 BRD) shut out Hopewell 7-0, the Packers (4-5 BRD) blitzed Deep Creek 6-0, the Tigers (14-0 BRD) blanked Lakeland 4-0 and the Panthers (1-9 BRD) edged Northumberland 1-0.

Lafayette (5-7 BRD) dropped a 2-1 decision to Nansemond River.
