Bruton High's girls basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak Saturday with a 49-36 victory at York High School.
The Panthers outscored the Falcons 15-8 in the first quarter and cruised to the Bay Rivers District win. Naya Samuel scored a game-high 24 points to lead Bruton (6-9 overall, 4-9 district). The freshman was 6 of 7 from the free-throw line.
Tonaza Hawkins chipped in nine points, while Kelsey Sluss and Alexis Calloway added six points apiece.
Rakeema Willis scored 15 points to lead York (2-14, 1-12). Shoynae Sellers added nine.
Warhill — Poquoson outscored Warhill 15-6 in the fourth quarter to earn a 62-53 road victory last Saturday.
Sydney Turner scored a game-high 25 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead the Islanders. Sarah Davis posted 12 points and Brittany Frazier finished with nine as Poquoson (12-2, 11-2) took a half-game lead over Lafayette for second place in the district standings.
Kieran McClure scored 24 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, to lead Warhill (4-9, 4-9). Kasey Grainer added 18 points and Keely Rochard finished with six.
Walsingham Academy — Ashley Barnes scored nine points for Walsingham Academy's girls basketball team during last Saturday's 59-15 loss to Nansemond-Suffolk Academy.
Caroline Boyd posted four points and two rebounds and Chelsea Marcombe pulled down seven boards.
Williamsburg Christian Academy — The Eagles notched their 25th win of the season Monday night with a 60-12 rout of Alliance Christian.
Stephanie Seaman scored 18 points as Williamsburg Christian Academy (25-2, 10-0) raced to a 46-6 halftime lead.
Kaylee Boger scored 12 points, while Kiana Batagelj and Imani Bryant added 10 points apiece for the Eagles.
