In a rematch of the recent Kiwanis tournament finals, Berkeley and Hornsby middle schools will meet Wednesday for the Bay Rivers District championship. Tipoff is 7 p.m. at James Blair.
The Bulldogs earned a spot in the finals with a convincing 76-49 victory over Yorktown in the semifinals. Keyshawn Jefferson scored 19 points to lead Berkeley. Eleven different players scored for the Bulldogs, including 14 points from Sutton Perozek. Deajriene Lee added 12 points and Sha'khan Amos fininshed with 11.
Hornsby earned its spot in the finals with a 53-35 victory over Grafton in a Monday semifinal.
Sam Jones scored 11 of his game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter as the Hawks erased a four-point halftime deficit. Hornsby was a perfect 7 of 7 from the free-throw line in the final minutes.
T.J. Epps scored 11 points and Jack Erwin added seven.
