Lafayette's Steck fourth in MileStat invite; Warhill's Conti wins 'B' race

Lafayette senior Konrad Steck was fourth Saturday in the Varsity A Boys race in the MileStat.com Cross Country Invitational in Mechanicsville.

Steck turned in a mark of 15:14 as Waleed Suliman of Freeman High won in 14:49.

The top local girls time belonged to Bruton junior Clara Wincheski with 19:08 for a fifth-place finish in the Varsity B Girls race.

Jamestown's boys finished first of 31 schools in the B race that was won by Warhill senior Spencer Conti (16:14).

Walsingham Academy's girls team was seventh of 28 teams in the B race.

Football

Lafayette has moved into a first-place tie with Heritage in the 4A East Region Conferences 17-18 football standings after seven weeks. Grafton and Smithfield are also in position to make the eight-team 17-18 playoff bracket as things stand with three regular season games left.

Poquoson, Tabb and Warhill are in the top eight of the 3A East Region Conferences 25-27 standings at the moment, and thus poised to make the playoffs. New Kent, which is ninth, can move into the top eight with a win over Warhill on Friday.

4A Jamestown, 3A York and 2A Bruton are in need of more wins to move into playoff contention in their regions. Below is a look at the 4A East/17-18 and 3A East/25-27 standings.
