W&M men's soccer to open at Michigan, face trio of ACC teams before CAA play

The William and Mary men's soccer schedule will yet again feature a challenging nonconference slate in 2017.

The Tribe's ledger will include dates against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents N.C. State (home), North Carolina and Virginia Tech (home). It will mark the first matchup against the Wolfpack since 2014 and first against the Hokies, who finished ranked nationally last season, since 2007. The Tar Heels defeated William and Mary in Williamsburg last year before reaching the College Cup Final Four.

William and Mary's schedule away from Colonial Athletic Association play will also be highlighted by the season opener at Michigan Aug. 25; an instate matchup Sept. 19 at Longwood and a late-season fixture at Coastal Carolina, a strong Big South Conference program.

The Tribe will kick off CAA action Sept. 9 at Drexel and close the regular season away Oct. 28 at College of Charleston.

William and Mary finished 12-7-2 last season and reached the CAA title game against Hofstra before bowing out.

Men's basketball

William and Mary all-time leading scorer Marcus Thornton is playing in the NBA Summer League for the third-straight season, this summer for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Thornton and the Thunder will play games on NBATV on July 5-6.

Last season, Thornton played in Italy's top league for VL Pesaro and averaged 13.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists.

Thornton was the 45th pick overall in the second round of the 2015 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics, becoming the ninth Tribe player to be selected in the NBA Draft and the highest since 1961.
