William and Mary women's soccer opens with pair of wins at JMU

William and Mary earned its second women’s soccer victory in Harrisonburg, beating Boston College 3-1 Sunday at the James Madison Invitational.

Redshirt sophomore Sarah Segan and seniors Rachel Moore and Sami Grasso scored for the Tribe (2-0)

Segan worked around the goalkeeper and scored from 12 yards in the 28th minute. Moore converted in the 58th minute, and Grasso made it 3-0 in the 83rd minute.

Sophomore goalkeeper Katelyn Briguglio made three saves for her first win of the year.

Erin Dailey was named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week on Monday after earning starts in each of the first two games and scoring in the 2-0 opening win over Providence.

Elysse Branton scored the other goal for William and Mary, which welcomes Fairleigh Dickinson in its home opener 7 p.m. Thursday.

Men’s soccer

Host William and Mary scored three goals in an 8-minute span to beat Navy 3-1 in an exhibition.

William Eskay scored the first two goals, while Preseason Colonial Athletic Association Preseason Player of the Year Antonio Bustamante had the last one. Each assisted on the other's goals.

Eskay scored in the 11th and 14th minutes, and Bustamante added to the lead in the 19th. The Tribe was getting ready to play at Michigan on Friday in a regular-season opener.

The Midshipmen scored on Nicko West's header in the 76th minute.

William and Mary opens the regular season at Michigan on Friday.
