Sarah Segan’s penalty kick with 53 seconds left in regulation Thursday enabled William and Mary to earn a 2-2 draw at Elon.
William and Mary head coach Hillary Fratzke completed her staff with the hiring of Will Mraz as an assistant coach.
Mraz was the head coach at the Maine Maritime Academy last season, leading the program to its first postseason berth and the best conference record in school history. He is the head coach of the Czech Republic women's national team. He graduated in 1973 from Fairfield University, where he was the captain of the men's lacrosse team.
Graduate student Molly Applegate was named the CAA Runner of the Week last week, after leading the women's cross country team at the Panorama Farms Invitational. This was the first award of the season for W&M, and the first of Applegate's career in either cross country or track. At Panorama, Applegate finished 15th overall in 17:57.4, and led the team to a fourth-place finish.
The teams race again Oct. 13 at the Penn State National Open.
Former William and Mary All-America offensive tackle Jerry Ugokwe was signed to the Washington Redskins’ practice squad Tuesday. The rookie signed free-agent contracts with the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints in the summer before being waived by both squads.
Ugokwe joins DeAndre Houston-Carson (Bears), Tre McBride (Bears) and Luke Rhodes (Colts) as current NFL players from W&M.
