Jamestown boys win C-18 indoor track and field championship

The Jamestown boys won the 4A Conference 18 indoor track and field championship Tuesday in Hampton, beating second-place Lafayette by 41 points to claim its first Conference 18 track title.

Grafton's girls won, followed by Lafayette and Jamestown.

Jamestown's individual boys' winners were John Agnew (1,600 meters, 4:40.79), Zach Pennycuff (300, 36.61), and Will Armbruster (pole vault, 10 feet, 6 inches).

The Eagles swept the top-three places in the 300 with Jordan Willis and Jordan Turner following Pennycuff.

Willis was also third in the 500 and second in the long jump and Turner was second in the 55.

Willis ran on the winning 4x400 team with Peter Stiglitz, Scott Armbruster and Will Middlebrooks.

And Ben Keener joined Stiglitz, Middlebrooks and Scott Armbruster on the first-place 4x800 team.

“It was a great team effort and we had points contributed from all areas especially the sprint area,” Jamestown coach Mark Tompkins said. “This was supported by a strong distance squad and we earned points as well in pole vault, sprints, long, triple jump and shot put. The boys came together as a great team and it was exciting to see so many athletes contribute in all areas.”
