Jamestown stays unbeaten in Bay Rivers volleyball; Bruton tops Lafayette

Jamestown defeated Grafton 25-14, 25-20, 25-15 Thursday in volleyball to improve to 12-1 overall and 8-0 in Bay Rivers District play.

Standouts for Jamestown were Maggie Viniard (31 assists, 8 digs, 1 kill, 1 ace), Emma Schriner (13 kills, 3 blocks, 2 digs, 1 ace), Ellie Popelka (10 kills, 4 aces, 3 blocks, 9 digs), Maria Esch (11 kills, 3 aces, 9 digs), Madison Pettengell (4 blocks, 3 digs).

Bruton d. Lafayette 11-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-18: Lafayette standouts were Abby Goetsch (6 aces), Kelly Caroll (ace, 17 kills, block), Abby Oren (3 aces, 10 kills, 3 blocks).

Bruton is 4-4 in Bay Rivers. Panthers standouts were Alexa Woolson (21 assists, 7 aces, 4 digs), Gabby Calloway (7 aces, 15 kills, 2 blocks), Ayanna Millner (4 blocks), Mykael Johnson (1 ace, 10 digs, 10 kills, 7 assists).

"The light turned on in the second game and we started playing our game," Bruton coach Kevin Doloresco said, "and pretty much held the lead throughout the rest of the three."
