Koob surpasses 200 rushing yards in Warhill's 47-18 win over Jamestown

JAMES CITY – Jamestown hung around and made a game of it Friday, but Warhill scored 20 unanswered fourth quarter points to win 47-18.

Warhill (3-2, 2-2 Bay Rivers) was led by senior Bryce Koob’s 211 rushing yards on 26 carries for two touchdowns, including a 53-yarder in the fourth quarter than put the Lions ahead 34-18 with 6:40 to play at Wanner Stadium.

"Nothing different from the first half," Warhill coach Thad Wheeler said, "just execution is what it comes down to."

Junior Rodney Hudson had two short rushing touchdowns for Warhill and a 34-yard reception for a score on a toss from senior quarterback Ryan Creecy, who completed his only two passes of the night.

Hudson's receiving touchdown came at a crucial point for Warhill after it recovered a muffed Jamestown punt with 10:36 to play in the game and the Lions still hanging on to the same 21-12 lead they had at halftime. It gave Warhill possession at Jamestown's 40 yard-line and after a 6-yard Koob run, Creecy popped the lob to Hudson, who was wide open on the left side of the field near the goal line.

After Koob's big run to make it 34-18, a Jamestown penalty yielded an ensuing kickoff from the 50 for Warhill, which recovered Fletcher Whalen's onside kick at the Eagles' 44.

"It wasn't that we stopped fighting," Jamestown coach Donnell Brown said. "We made mistakes and gave a good team the ball. Hats off to Warhill for capitalizing down the stretch, executing and making the plays they needed to make."

Three plays later, Warhill's Karrington Thompson scored the first of his two late touchdowns on a 16-yard run up the middle. The senior ended up with 95 of Warhill's 426 rushing yards on just four carries.

Senior receiver Zach Pennycuff continued his stellar combination with junior quarterback Hunter Brittain for Jamestown (0-5, 0-4). Pennycuff caught his sixth and seventh touchdowns of the season and finished with 9 catches for 128 yards.
