West Point students take first place in a conference-level competition

WEST POINT— West Point High School's One Act team will move on to a regional theater competition after taking first place in a conference-level competition on Nov. 7.

West Point's team were picked as the top performance with their comedy selection, "A Mad Breakfast," directed by Bev Hammond.

The competition took place at the Robinson/Olssen Civic Auditorium at West Point High School. The team competed against other high schools similar in size to West Point, according to a school news release. 

The team will participate in a regional competition at West Point High School on Nov. 21 and will face first and second place winners from each conference-level competition.

Madison Raef was named Best Actress and Michael Getman was chosen as Best Supporting Actor.

Several cast members also received honorable mention awards, including Tyler Zaprazny, Jonel Jones, Emily Gaines, Katie Capps, Emma Ragsdale, Abram Briley and Damara Sparks, according to the school.

Central Senior High School won second place with their performance, "After Hours." CSHS will join West Point at the regional competition.

The regional competition will be open to the public. The competition will start at 12:15 p.m. on Nov. 21 at the Robinson/Olssen Civic Auditorium. Admission is free.

Regional first and second place winners will go to the state competition in Charlottesville in early December.
