In order to let its students take advantage of the high demand for qualified truck drivers, Rappahannock Community College is offering a special course in cooperation with CDS Tractor Trailer Training. The course starts November 9, and runs Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., for four weeks. Since the Thanksgiving holiday falls within this time period, the training will probably roll into the week of December 7.
The first two weeks of training will consist of classroom hours, while the remaining time will be devoted to behind-the-wheel instruction. Those who complete the course can confidently expect to pass the DMV test for a commercial drivers' license, and can then look forward to finding a job that will pay an average of $40,000 or $50,000 per year. "Job Placement assistance is provided, and companies are hiring!" says Jill Balleh of CDS.
Students must be at least 18 years of age to join the class. The cost of the training can be covered by the G.I. Bill, but many other funding resources are also available. Call RCC-Workforce at 804-333-6828 (Warsaw), 804-758-6750 (Glenns), or 804-435-8970 (Kilmarnock) for more information.
