For those who are complaining about the new city hall in Williamsburg, take heart. This futuristic building would be fine if it were off in a field somewhere by itself. What the architects and the people who approved the plans ignored was the principle of context. All good architects know that context can make or break a design. All around this modern, contemporary-looking building are brick buildings of a particular scale and a hint of Georgian updated. The new city hall has none of this and that's why it's a failure. It's too bad that we can't do anything about it now.
