WJCC School Board discusses restraint and seclusion policies

Williamsburg-James City County School board members discussed a proposed policy about how and when students could be restrained or secluded. 

Virginia state code requires school districts to have a policy in place, and that it be revised and reviewed as needed by the school board. 

School board members had questions and concerns about the policy, with several expressing concern about when parents would be notified of what happened with their child. Part of the policy gives the district up to five days to send a written notice to parents, but parents are usually notified within a day or the same day, school officials said.
