Williamsburg needs our attention as much as it ever did

My first visit to Williamsburg was in August 1958. I was 12 and we lived in St. Augustine, Fla. Our family vacations were visits to our relatives or visits to an historic site or some combination thereof. It was a long trip to Williamsburg as there was no interstate and it would be another year before we would get our first air-conditioned car.

The Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center had been finished the year before and was a state-of-the-art facility. We had no trouble finding the center, as the little green signs gave very clear directions. I thought those signs were nothing short of a stroke of genius.
