JAMES CITY — It takes more than scary makeup and a bloodcurdling scream to scare visitors to Busch Garden Williamsburg's annual Howl-O-Scream event — although the makeup and the screams don't hurt.
What it really takes is months of labor and rehearsal. And even a script.
"Every scare is scripted," said Danielle Schafer from Busch Garden's operations department.
In the case of one of the park's new mazes this year, Unearthed -- Scarlett's Revenge, it was scripted for Busch Gardens by Robin Cowie, producer of horror classic "The Blair Witch Project."
Cowie began discussing the project last summer with Busch Gardens.
