Williamsburg City Council kicks trash pickup to the curb

WILLIAMSBURG - City Council voted Thursday to save $165,000 a year by requiring city residents to roll their refuse to the curb.

The city did away with its hybrid plan, some neighborhoods already had curbside pickup while the majority of the city had side yard and backyard service, in the new five-year collection agreement it awarded to Republic Services.

Republic bid just over $350,000. To keep the hybrid service would have cost at least $515,000. Republic only presented a bid for curbside service.
