Police investigating detonated improvised explosive device in Williamsburg

2 p.m update:

Williamsburg Police spokesman Maj. Greg Riley held a briefing Friday afternoon near the scene of an explosion from an improvised explosive device.

He said it was now a criminal investigation.

"There's no indication that there's a further threat," Riley said.

Riley said the William and Mary homecoming parade is still on, but wouldn't ouline any specific security measures due to the explosion.

1 p.m. update:

A vehicle with three propane tanks in it caused enough concern among law enforcement that they locked down Matthew Waley Elementary for a short time Friday morning to investigate.
