Williamsburg man killed in I-64 crash

A Williamsburg man is dead after an early-morning wreck Wednesday on Interstate 64 in New Kent County.

Charles E.S. Garrett, 27, died after the 2006 Honda Civic he was driving became wedged under a tractor-trailer, according to a news release from Virginia State Police.

Shortly after 5:20 a.m., New Kent Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a crash in the eastbound lanes of Intersate 64 near exit 214, New Kent Fire Chief Rick Opett said.

Witnesses told police the Honda driver had been weaving in and out of traffic and traveling at a high rate of speed before it struck the tractor trailer carrying 16,000 pounds of paper, state police said.
