West Point school officials begin addressing survey concerns

West Point Public Schools principals are taking steps to address issues raised in a community survey conducted in the spring.

Students, parents and division employees expressed concern about substance abuse, discipline and communication in the division-wide survey.

“We took the survey results seriously,” High School Principal Mark Dorsey told School Board members at the board’s meeting Oct. 17.

The school division survey gathered responses from 469 students, 330 parents and 65 employees, representing fourth grade to 12th grade. Generally, members of the high school community participated the most, with 221 students, 128 parents and 23 employees weighing...
