Sludge legislation advances through General Assembly

RICHMOND – Several bills calling for further study and greater oversight of the land application of biosolids and industrial waste products introduced by local representatives are making their way through the Virginia General Assembly's 2015 session.

Many local leaders have been vocal about their apprehension towards biosolids and industrial waste products, most recently during one region's battle to halt an application by a Baltimore-based company, Synagro Technologies, to apply industrial waste products to roughly 16,000 acres of farmland in Goochland, Hanover, King and Queen, King William, New Kent, and Surry counties.
