The Virginia Employment Commission plans to close its Williamsburg Crossing Shopping Center office on Oct. 16, leaving the closet VEC centers in Hampton and Hopewell.
Changes in federal law, and federal funding, lead to the closing.
"We've had some budget cuts," said Joyce Fogg, communications manager for VEC, in Richmond. "All of our funding comes from the federal government."
One reason that closing the Williamsburg office is somewhat surprising is that, during the tourism off-season, Williamsburg has one of the highest unemployment rates in the state.
