Equipment fire temporarily shuts down McDonald's at Governor's Green

JAMES CITY - An early morning fire Wednesday caused by malfunctioning equipment at McDonald's on John Tyler Highway resulted in minor smoke damage to the restaurant, according to the fire department.

Miles Pettengell, James City assistant fire chief, said units responded shortly after 6:30 a.m. to the restaurant in the 4500 block of John Tyler Highway. Upon arrival, they discovered smoke and a small fire near a cooking appliance, he said.

An automatic fire suppression system at the restaurant contained the fire until firfighters could extinguish it at 6:46 a.m., according to Pettengell. He said the cause was determined to be a malfunctioning cooking...
