Jones makes case against tax increase at JCC budget forum

Supervisor Mary Jones made a forceful case against a proposed 8.2 cent hike in the real estate tax at a budgettown hall forum Thursday night, saying the county instead needed to prioritize areas that needed to be addressed in its budget before asking for additional funds.

Jones, who is up for re-election this year, is the lone supervisor who has come out against any hike in the real estate tax rate, which would add $20 per month to the average homeowners bill, or $240 per year.

Jones fielded questions from citizens, including several from the First Colony and Fernbrook neighboorhoods, where stormwater issues have caused concern.
